Anderson Ranch Introduces a New Symposium Series for Summer 2014

Summer at Anderson Ranch Arts Center will once again be filled with contemporary artists, critics and journalists, as the Ranch introduces a new Symposium Series for the summer.

Headshot_webOscar-winning director and artist Steve McQueen will serve as keynote speaker of a two-day symposium, Making the Change They Want to See, August 13-14. Curated by Anne Pasternak, President and Artistic Director of Creative Time, this symposium invites Mel Chin, Pedro Reyes and Superflex, along with Mr. McQueen, to share how they are working to bring greater justice into the world through their insights, provocations and creation of new models of change. The symposium also includes prestigious art critic Holland Cotter, who will provide closing remarks.

The Making the Change They Want to See symposium is a paid, ticketed event at $500 for general admission seating or $250 for summer 2014 students and faculty of the Ranch and National Council members. Tickets can be purchased here.

The Reckoning CoverAlso part of the Symposium Series is a panel discussion that takes place on July 30 at 12:30 p.m. and brings together the four authors of The Reckoning: Women Artists of the New Millennium – Eleanor Heartney, Helaine Posner, Nancy Princenthal and Sue Scott, along with renowned photographer Catherine Opie.  The panel will explore and discuss the evolving status and concerns of women artists who followed the pioneering artists of the 1970s.  This event is free and open to the public; however, reservations are required and can be made here.
