Walking around campus last week you would have seen a lot of action. Between the metal fabrication class in sculpture and the kiln unloading in ceramics, we had a hot week to say the least. In addition, the Wyly painting building was full-up with three classes and so was the wood studio.
On top of our workshops, New York artist Mickalene Thomas has been working in the long studio on a visiting artist project.
Here are some photos from the week:
After almost a week’s worth of firing and cooling, the wood kiln was finally unloaded. Inside was a lot of work from Ranch artists, and work made by Goro Suzuki during his visiting artists’ stay.
One of the painting classes last week was Jane Lackey’s “Material Drawing: Adjusting Tension.” Students were using Fiber art to create 2d and 3d installation.
Downstairs was a screen printing workshop with John Hitchcock.
Mickalene Thomas was working on a visiting artist project in the long studio. Thursday night the Ranch held an informal reception for Thomas where she displayed some of her work from the week and talked a bit about her art-making process.
