2009-2010 Winter Lecture Series and Events Calendar Available! Anderson Ranch presents the Winter Lecture Series featuring talks by accomplished artists, art historians and critics. The lectures take place in the Schermer Meeting Hall. The 2009/2010 Winter Lecture Series is sponsored by the Anderson Ranch National Council.
All gallery exhibitions and receptions take place in the Patton-Malott & Gartner Galleries located on the second floor of the Dows Barn administration building.
All events are free and open to the public.

This exhibition features artwork from the Ranch’s fall resident artists. October 20 – November 20, 2009 in the Patton-Malott Gallery.
I Love My Love with a J opening reception, 5 - 7 pm
This exhibition features the work of Janice Jakielski, a mixed media installation artist whose fabricated objects for the body address issues of communication, distance and desire. Through the use of luscious fabrics, vibrant colors and intricate surfaces, Janice invites the viewer to use and explore the objects creating a multisensory experience. Simen Johan slide lecture, 7 pm
In his photographs, Simen Johan depicts a natural world hovering between reality, fantasy and nightmare. Merging traditional photographic techniques with digital methods, Johan’s images are crafted over time and blur the boundaries between the real and the unreal. simenjohan.com

Adam Lerner slide lecture, 7 pm
Adam Lerner, Director of the Museum of Contemporary Art Denver, discusses the attitude towards art and culture that underlies his unusual approach to creating museum programs and exhibitions. He argues that the most authentic relationship to art derives from the appreciation of the connection between art and culture at large. mcadenver.org

Open studios, 5 – 7 pm
To celebrate the holidays, the Ranch opens its doors to the community. Follow candle-lit paths leading to the studios of our staff and resident artists.
Holiday ornament sale, 5 – 7 pm
Handmade holiday decorations and ornaments made by local artists will be available for purchase in the reception area.
Digital to Physical opening reception, 5 – 7 pm
A juried exhibition of 2D, 3D, and single-channel time-based work created using digital technology. Juried by Kirsten Gerdes Stoltz, Associate Curator of Boulder Museum of Contemporary Art. December 8 – January 29, 2010 in the Patton-Malott Gallery.
Dinner at the Ranch Café, 6:30 – 7:30 pm, $15/adults

Hung Liu slide lecture, 7 pm
Known for paintings drawn from Chinese historical photography, Hung Liu’s works focus on what she calls the “mythic poses” that underlay the photographic surfaces of history. These “mythic poses” come from particular historical circumstances, but seem epic, trans-historical and allegorical in her paintings. kelliu.com

Using a variety of media—photography, video, and art installations—Méndez explores the nature of perception and media representation. The Gideon Gartner Gallery features experimental and site-specific artwork and showcases the Ranch’s long history of creating and exhibiting dynamic and ground-breaking work. Through a juried process, an artist was selected for this exhibition. February 9 – March 2, 2010 in the Gideon Gartner Gallery.

David Hilliard creates large-scale multi-paneled color photographs, often based on his life or the lives of people around him. His panoramas direct the viewer’s gaze across the image surface allowing narrative, time and space to unfold. davidhilliard.com

Annual Monothon Exhibition Auction Preview, 5 pm
Dinner and Live Auction, 7 pm
Original monotypes created by Roaring Fork Valley artists in the third annual collaboration with Matt Christie, master printer of Anderson Ranch Editions, are displayed in the Patton-Malott Gallery. Dinner and live auction of the prints follow immediately in Schermer Meeting Hall. Proceeds from the sale will support improvements to the print studio. Live Forms Talking opening reception, 5 – 7 pm
This exhibition features the work of Scott Chamberlin, Kim Dickey and Jeanne Quinn, art professors at the University of Colorado at Boulder, who sculpt clay into biomorphic forms that act as explorers and participants in the space creating an alternate environment of pure imagination. March 16 – April 20, 2010 in the Patton-Malott Gallery and Gideon Gartner Gallery.

Glenn Goldberg’s soulful abstract paintings provide a playful yet focused vision of man in and out of nature. These symbolist filled constellations place the passage of man and animal within an enveloping sea of color and pointillism.
