ConceptExpand the potential of your ceramic work with an intensive look into wood and soda fire process. Investigate contemporary form and its relationship to the firing process, learning how and why vapor (wood and soda) kilns affect form. Discussions focus on craftsmanship, aesthetics and finding your own voice with clay. We also cover kiln design and ceramic material choices appropriate to firing processes.



Media & TechniquesWe use stoneware and porcelain high-fire clays and a variety of slips and glazes. Throwing and altering techniques are presented along with press molds and some handbuilding techniques.



ActivitiesStudents work in the studio every day. Demonstrations are given every morning and afternoon but with plenty of studio time. Regular one-on-one discussions with instructors expand each individual's potential as an artist.

Jason Hess received his MFA from Utah State University. Jason has exhibited his work at galleries and in competitions throughout the US. Currently he is Associate Professor of Art at Northern Arizona University in Flagstaff.

Ted Adler is Assistant Professor of Art and Area Head of Ceramics Media at Wichita State University. Adler has exhibited his work in more than 60 exhibitions, including the 1999 and 2003 National Council on Education for the Ceramic Arts' National Competition
