Learn your camera's functions and controls-no experience necessary-in this two day introduction to the fundamental concepts and techniques of image capture with a digital SLR camera. We focus on operation of the camera, with an emphasis on components of a basic SLR and optical elements of picture making. This workshop will begin with a brief demonstration of various methods to produce monotypes, and then students are free to experiment with this versatile and playful medium. Participants will get the opportunity to learn to operate a French tool press and will have ample time to work on and print several plates. Mold Making
This two-day workshop will explore the creation of molds to be used in your own art practice. We will take a close look at industrial materials and practices and use this information to better understand how molds can benefit an artist. Molds allow you to cast soft or liquid materials into a desired form. The resulting castings can be manipulated, combined with other forms, or multiples of the form can be used in sculptures. Students will leave the workshop with technical skills and the information needed to make molds and castings in their material of choice. This workshop will focus on the great fun and challenge of handling large scale drawings. While there will be very much a focus on artmaking, we will also review some good procedures on how to handle, prep and care for your large drawings. The class will be working on paper sheets of 40" square that we provide, and will utilize a range of drawing media, from charcoal, pencil to ink and color washes.
