| A Fiddily, Diddily Float Fellow floaters follow the fun! Help design the silliest, diddliest float for Aspen's Old Fashioned 4th of July Parade. We develop a concept, and then decorate the official Anderson Ranch parade truck. It's going to be a wildly creative ride! Students and their siblings are invited to ride on the float in the official parade on Sunday, July 4. This workshop is held at the Snowmass Chapel community room. Parade attendance is optional, but encouraged!

We study simple machines and learn how to use basic shop tools safely and efficiently. With trial and error, we solve basic engineering challenges to create powered cars from bottle caps, plastic, aluminum, rubber bands and wood scraps. | Playing with Fire: intro to glass blowing Spiro Lyon Glass, North Rim Glass Studio and Anderson Ranch partner in this three-day intensive introduction to the basic skills of shaping and sculpting hot glass. We work in cooperative teams with individualized assistance, supporting a safe environment. The workshop is held offsite at the Spiro Lyon Glass Studio (halfway between Basalt and Carbondale); and students must provide their own transportation to the studio.

We bring this centuries-old art form into the 21st century with colorful designs, bold images and intricate patterns, exploring a variety of batik methods such as monoprinting and stenciling. We work with the waxes and inks traditionally used in Indonesian batik. Fabric for dying will be provided, but you may also bring plain, light-colored cotton clothing to print. | Cooking with Clay Clay is a beautiful and functional media, and what is better than creating your own pots, dishes, utensils and trivets for a special family recipe? Students make at least one special baking dish, salad bowl or other serving piece for a favorite family dish. We also make clay tiles on which the clayware can sit or protect warm dishes. We learn handbuilding techniques and ways to add designs by stamping and adding details. At the end of the week, we have collective feast to enjoy our new pottery. ...more
