Our Dream

Anderson Ranch seeks a dynamic colleague who is driven by a belief that the power of art-making can change individuals, and the world. We have a specific need for a colleague with a deep understanding of Latinx culture, traditional and contemporary Latinx and/or Indigenous arts and who can make grassroots connections in our community. This individual will also lead our Children’s and Young Artists’ programs; shaping them into a world-class example of youth arts education. Our programs serve both the local full-time community, including a large Latinx population, as well as dynamic seasonal residents who return year after year; and students who travel to attend our workshops. The Children’s’ Program Coordinator will directly teach children’s workshops and will also be a leader in arts education who can teach other teachers, supervise faculty and manage all planning aspects of the program.

 Anderson Ranch Arts Center (the Ranch) is a year-round visual-arts organization with a 50+ year history of providing transformative experiences that celebrate artists, art-making and creative dialog, at the intersection of craft and the global contemporary art world. Anderson Ranch brings together both aspiring and internationally renowned artists who come from across the country and around the world to test new ideas, explore new disciplines and techniques, hone their art-making skills, engage in meaningful dialog, and connect with thought leaders and world-renowned collectors, critics, and influencers.

Anderson Ranch Arts Center’s campus is an artistic community nestled among the pristine peaks of the Rocky Mountains. The Ranch campus consists of 14 buildings providing 55,000 square feet of facilities including eight studio buildings, a gallery, a lecture hall, café, store, administrative offices, a student dormitory, as well as apartments and cabins for artistic staff and artists. State-of-the-art equipment allows cross-disciplinary experimentation within the mediums of ceramics, woodworking, photography, digital fabrication, painting, sculpture, and printmaking. The campus is an oasis of renovated 19th-century cabins and barns that sit alongside contemporary designed buildings, all within the renowned cultural and recreation communities of Aspen/Snowmass, CO and the Roaring Fork Valley.

  • Workshops: Providing intensive 1-3-week workshops for artists of all levels and all ages that both improve technical art-making skills and provide transformative experiences for art makers.

  • Artist Residencies: Providing 5 and 10-week long juried Artists-in-Residence programs which give emerging and mid-career professional artists the time, space and resources to develop new work using our world-class facilities.

Position Summary

The successful candidate will provide outreach to the local Latinx community and mine for opportunities with populations of color. They will also develop and implement year-round curriculum and programs for children and youth ages 4-17.  As part of the artistic team representing the major disciplines offered by the Ranch, this person will collaborate as a team member with the Coordinators in each discipline area, as well as the Artists Directors and Administrative teams, to build programming that builds on strengths across the Ranch. The successful candidate will be passionate about outreach, art education, teaching and integrating indigenous art and youth into the Ranch community. They will develop curriculum and invite guest faculty to teach; oversee workshop instructors and interns; work with administrative and artistic staff on program promotion, student recruitment and community programming.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Latinx Arts Community Leader: Advocate internally to improve the representation of Latinx art and artists across Ranch offerings. Externally, build and lead programs that share the importance of both traditional techniques and contemporary practices of Latinx artists to connect with the local Latinx community and culture.
  • Develop & Coordinate Children’s and Young Artist Workshops: Design artistic and creative workshops for children and teenagers, identify and hire faculty, orchestrate logistics, and monitor weekly workshops throughout the summer months, as well as periodic afternoon or weekend offerings during the academic year. Coordinator is expected to actively teach and/or co-teach and must be ready to act when workshops are below standards.
  • Oversee School Partnership Programs: Oversee the coordination, and expansion, of scholarships for local children and teenagers in partnership with Roaring Fork Valley schools and local art teachers. In addition, oversee, and expand, the partnerships with Arts High Schools around the country that send students and teachers to participate in workshops at the Ranch.
  • Manage Children’s Program and Building: Manage and supervise the Children’s Building and programs, including budget, supply ordering, inventory of studio materials, equipment maintenance, hiring, supervising, and mentoring seasonal teaching assistants and interns. Must also manage and execute child security and safety policies and procedures.
  • Ranch Ambassador and Fundraiser: Act as a goodwill ambassador, internally and externally, for the Children’s Program and the Ranch with colleagues, funding partners, participant families and community leaders. This may include, but is not limited to, assigned relationships liaising with individual funders and underwriters, as well as writing grants and preparing grant reports.

Staff Community Responsibilities:

  • Community Outreach Leader: All staff members are expected to build and lead partnerships with community organizations as they relate to their area of responsibility, and to actively support the outreach efforts of other team members.
  • Engaged & Supportive Team Member: All staff are expected to support colleagues and engaged in the programs and events of the Ranch by attending lectures, artist talks, fundraising events and community-wide events and being available to jump in and help make them a success.

  • Brand Ambassador: All team members are expected to comport themselves in a manner that is fitting with the organization; represent the Ranch both on and off-campus, as well as online and on social media, keeping in mind that positivity and professionalism are respected and appreciated.

Expected Skills & Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of art education, child development, and teaching standards/methods
  • Bilingual in Spanish and English
  • Experience as a supervisor or teacher of artistic youth program
  • Experience with a wide variety of artistic materials and processes including both traditional and digital media
  • Proven time-management skills, organizational skills, attention to detail, the ability to multitask, coordinate current and long-range projects, and meet deadlines
  • Ability to work both in a team setting as well as independently. Self-starter. Must be a strong and proactive communicator, both in verbal and written communication
  • Ability to provide excellent customer service under pressure and conflict resolution skills
  • Strong computer skills, and experience with standard software
  • Flexibility to work evenings and weekends as needed to be present at programs
  • Clear background check as appropriate to supervising children and youth
  • Minimum BA or equivalent college degree
  • Physical Requirements: Typical examples of physical tasks include: reaching, standing, sitting, typing, talking, crouching, kneeling, seeing, and hearing. Typical tasks as required to actively teach and supervise children in a historic building space with uneven surfaces, stairs, gravel, etc. Occasional lifting and carrying up to 25 pounds
