DESCRIPTION:Missed the Visiting Artist Lecture? Watch the full livestream recording here. Visiting Artist Lectures are free\, open to the public\, and available in person or via livestream. Karinne Smith (b. 1992) transforms everyday objects—plastic chairs\, laundry\, water jugs—into portals for the mystical and mundane to converge. Working across photography\, print\, painting\, and sculpture\, her practice lingers on absence\, conjuring familiar yet uncanny echoes of other times and places. Smith holds a BA from UC Berkeley and an MFA in Sculpture from Yale University (2020). Recent exhibitions include Melon Skin (solo\, M23\, NYC\, 2021)\, Girl You Want (ArtYard\, NJ\, 2021)\, Shapeshifting: Or\, Synonyms for Skin (Hessel Museum of Art\, 2023)\, West Follies (solo\, Caravan Gallery\, TX\, 2025)\, and Veronica\, Veronica (Hesse Flatow\, NYC\, 2025). Karinne Smith’s visit is generously supported by the Sasha and Edward P. Bass Residency.
