DESCRIPTION:Community Engagement and Dialogue Join us for a conversation in Schermer Meeting Hall at Anderson Ranch Arts Center with Visiting Artist Basil Kincaid. Visiting Artist lectures are free\, open to the public\, and available in person or via livestream. Basil Kincaid\, b. 1986 (St. Louis\, MO)\, is a multidisciplinary artist whose work explores spiritual and cultural memory through quilting\, drawing\, embroidery\, installation\, and performance. Drawing on the legacy of Black quilt-making and the use of repurposed materials\, Kincaid creates intricate works that connect ancestral traditions with contemporary art. Working between studios in St. Louis and Ghana\, his practice explores identity\, resilience\, and cultural continuity. Kincaid’s work has been exhibited at the Smithsonian American Art Museum (Washington\, D.C.)\, Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art (Bentonville\, AR)\, the Albertina (Vienna\, Austria)\, and the Rubell Museums (Washington\, D.C.\, and Miami\, FL)\, among others. His work is held in the collections of the Detroit Institute of Arts\, the International Quilt Museum (Lincoln\, NE)\, the North Carolina Museum of Art (Raleigh\, NC)\, and the Smithsonian American Art Museum\, among others. The Visiting Artists program is a core part of the Anderson Ranch Arts Center experience\, welcoming contemporary artists across disciplines to work on campus through residencies and special projects. Artists receive dedicated time\, space\, and technical support to develop new work and advance their practice. Visiting artists engage with students and residents through studio visits\, critiques\, and public lectures\, creating a meaningful exchange that enriches the Ranch community and the broader public.
