The prints and Sculptural reliefs of Lloyd Schermer are representations of his exploration of the history of movable letterpress type. While he foresaw and spearheaded the tremendous technical advances that transformed the newspaper printing industry from letterpress to photographic typesetting and lithography, he collected and preserved blocks of wood and metal type that those new processes made obsolete. His work is a lyrical and playful homage to this beautiful and powerful means of communication and a means of preserving and presenting this unique art form for the future.
