Visiting Critic: Julie Burleigh

Julie Burleigh has been painting and drawing, as well as making sculpture and fabric pieces since the early 1980’s. She studied painting and drawing at Kansas City Art Institute and Yale School of Art, and received her BFA from The School of the Art Institute of Chicago, and MFA from Tyler School of Art in Philadelphia. She taught for several years throughout the Midwest and in southern California at many colleges, art schools and universities including: The Art Institute of Chicago, Washington University in St. Louis, California Institute of the Arts, UCLA, UC Irvine, and The University of Southern California. As an artist, Julie has always been fascinated with the connections between nature and the body, and between color and spirit in the language of painting. Most recently, she has been investigating ideas relating to the ethereal and temporal nature of life & death using images of animals and plants.
