3-D Printing – S1010-19

Date: Aug 05 - 09, 2019

Skill Level(s): Ages 13 - 17 i

Instructor(s): Leah Aegerter

Tuition: $575
Studio Fee: $75
Registration Fee: $25

Time: 9AM – 3PM

Concept:

Discover how to print three-dimensional objects of your own design using CAD drafting software and PLA 3-D printers. In this exploratory workshop, students learn to model 3-D objects using CAD Drawing software and how to output to 3-D printers. Students work individually as they explore 3-D printing as a tool and as a singular artistic process. Students make a customized box, an animated character with moving features and a piece of wearable jewelry.

Media & Techniques:

Students begin with ideas and sketches, then discuss potential projects and begin fundamental CAD drawings of objects to be 3-D printed. Knowledge of CAD drawing is suggested but not required.

Activities:

Demonstrations, discussions and instruction are given each morning and afternoon. Students are then introduced to the material and process to provide insight for 3-D-printed projects. Throughout the week, project intentions are discussed then brought to life in our 3-D printing facility, the “FabLab”.

Faculty:

Leah Aegerter is an artist working primarily with wood, steel, and digital techniques to create object-based sculpture and installation. She holds a BFA in Sculpture from Rhode Island School of Design and is the current Fab Lab Technician at Anderson Ranch Arts Center.
