Master the elusive art of transferring photographic images and create striking works in this unique workshop, which combines the arts of paint and photography. We cover the basics of working with acrylic paints to establish powerful substrates (underlying layers) that enhance your images in remarkable ways. Students learn several approaches to working with paint, including basic adhesion techniques and multiple transfer processes. The transfer processes include but are not be limited to paper and ink jet transparency transfers. Along with painting, you are encouraged to use any combination of mixed media to produce the substrate for your applied images. We experiment with multiple transfers, different ways of applying different media, and reworking the surface to create truly arresting visual work.

Media & Techniques:

We use paint and digital images along with found objects, organic objects and recycled art (preferably your own). We encourage you to bring and use your own photographs, or use photos taken during the workshop.

We participate in demonstrations of painting with acrylics, digital imaging and transfer techniques including direct paper and inkjet transparencies. We cover the layering of images, gluing techniques, and the use of different materials to apply the digital image to the painted surface. Image presentations showcase artists using these techniques.

Holly Roberts has exhibited nationally and internationally and published three monographs of her work, including Holly Roberts, Holly Roberts: Works 1989-1999 and Holly Roberts: Works 2000-2009.
