Explore various ways to add depth to your art by creating different layers, textures and colors using the intaglio process. In addition to plate making, we learn about and experiment with registration, printing using multiple plates, editioning, drying and flattening. Color intaglio printing processes including color mixing, ink modi cation, multiple plate color layering and the use of chine-colle are introduced and demonstrated.  By the end of this workshop, you possess a strong understanding of multiple plate intaglio printing and leave class with a colorful edition of prints containing your own unique imagery.

Media & Techniques:

Students learn color intaglio using multiple plates. We cover plate making using ferric chloride to etch copper, image transfer, aquatint, soft ground, tool sharpening, registration, color mixing, paper preparation, inking and printing techniques. Signing and numbering prints are also demonstrated.


This workshop consists of demonstrations, plenty of studio work time, one-on-one instruction from the faculty and group discussions.


Eunkang Koh uses printmaking, book arts, drawing and installation to address social phenomena in our contemporary consumerist society. Solo exhibitions include Main Gallery, The Society of Northern Alberta Print-Artists in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada; La Taller in Bilbao, Spain and Varnish Fine Art in San Francisco. Eunkang is Associate Professor of printmaking and drawing in the Art Department at the University of Nevada, Reno.
