See the world in a new and exciting way when you explore a variety of materials to create dynamic works on paper and board. Collage is a wonderful and accessible art form that can be mastered by all, from the novice to the accomplished artist. In this exploratory workshop, we merge the expressive activity of making marks and lines informed by observation with the deliberate application of collage materials to create complex and visually engaging works of art. Experimentation is encouraged with an emphasis on composition, color, pattern and the use of collage as a design element.
We experiment with drawing processes that focus on observation using a variety of materials including graphite, ink, crayons, oil pastels, thread and paint. Students learn an archival collage technique.
The first day offers an overview of materials and techniques along with a demonstration of archival collage technique. During the following days, we focus on still life, portraiture and landscape, and explore the narrative use of collage elements. Students receive both individual instruction and participate in group discussions.
