Look beyond your everyday world in this stellar workshop, in which we find inspiration in the stars, planets, galaxies and even extraterrestrials! Students consider the infinite possibilities of outer space and use their interpretations to make art. We study images from the Hubble space telescope to inform our preliminary sketches using pencils, watercolors and oil pastels. Then we take our galactic sketches to the next level by exploring the various applications of wax painting also known as encaustic. We spend the week using colorful wax paint, unique stencils, carving tools, collage materials and more to create out-of-this-world works of art. We even have an opportunity to look through the lens of a real telescope before the week is out!
*Please note that this workshop is for the focused young artist, as we work with heat sources, advanced tools and hot wax.
