Painting is a direct and powerful way to start the process of letting our subconscious lead our creative flow. Students learn as many different ways of painting as possible as a way of making substrates that guide the image that follows. Using photographs, or any available material, students build their images letting the original acrylic painting guide the process. Photographic processes that apply to image-making are presented, as well as correct cutting and adhesive procedures. Final images are concise and specific, and most often, as are all gifts of the subconscious, not something seen before.
Students use paint and digital images along with found objects, organic objects and recycled art that is preferably their own. Students are encouraged to bring and use their own photographs or use photos taken during the workshop.
Demonstrations include painting with acrylics, digital imaging and transfer techniques, including direct paper and inkjet transparencies. Students review layering of images, gluing techniques, and how to use different materials to apply the digital image to the painted surface. Image presentations showcase artists using these techniques.
