In this rigorous painting workshop catered to your at-home studio, explore the expressivity of your materials, whether you are working with representational imagery, abstraction or the fertile area in between. With an expanded definition of painting that might also include mixed media or collage, participants discover new relationships between content and form with an emphasis on experimentation, arriving at imagery in spontaneous or unexpected ways. Exercises, online material demonstrations, readings and slideshows of contemporary painting reveal new methods for synthesizing imagery and materials to increase the potency and meaning of the visual experience. Students receive individual feedback via video conferencing throughout the week.
Students may use any preferred 2D medium or substrate, including acrylic, collage, oil, drawing, pastels, ink, etc., on canvas, paper, wood, plastic, metal, etc., Mixing media is encouraged.
Leslie Shows has exhibited her mixed-media paintings at the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, the Berkeley Art Museum, the Orange County Museum of Art, and the 8th Mercosul Biennial in Brazil. Solo exhibitions include the Scottsdale MoCA and the Walter McBean Gallery at SFAI.
