Take a journey back in time to the 1950’s where surfers in California discovered the bright idea of skateboarding. In this exciting workshop, we develop the skills of basic woodworking to create your own vintage skateboard. We begin by looking at classic shapes and then we design our own to create a custom-made vintage pinstriped deck. We develop a wide range of safe woodworking skills from cutting, gluing, sanding, shaping and finishing. Students test out their skateboards all while learning the history of skateboards throughout the ages.

Mark Tan studied furniture design and woodworking in the Crafts & Design program at Sheridan College in Toronto, Ontario. He is the Studio Coordinator for Furniture Design and Woodworking at Anderson Ranch Arts Center and has exhibited work in Canada and the United States.
