Develop and sustain direction and momentum within the personal studio practice in this advanced studio workshop. We place particular emphasis on workshop dialogue that focuses on conceptual strategies, formal connections, and the ways in which ideas are cultivated and built upon within each artist’s particular studio parameters. Students gain insight into established contemporary artists’ methods as well as hone their own concept, generating skills through intensive conversation among their peers, independent studio time, and one-on-one as well as group studio visits.
Media & Techniques:
Students may work in any chosen media. Alternative and/or experimental media are encouraged but not required. Paintings may incorporate or verge on three dimensions.
Each day includes a mid-day discussion bookended by independent studio work in the morning and afternoon. Students are expected to maintain a rigorous process in the studio and work toward advancing both critical thinking and technical skills.
Wendy White has exhibited extensively, including: the LA County Museum of Art; M Woods in Beijing, China; Museum of Fine Arts in Gifu, Japan; Bemis Center in Omaha, Neb.; Indianapolis Museum of Contemporary Art; and Kunstverein Rosa-Luxemburg-Platz in Berlin. She received a fellowship from the New York Foundation for the Arts and is included in Phaidon’s anthology, Vitamin P2: New Perspectives in Painting.
Portfolio Review Required:
Thank you for inquiring about our Level IV painting workshops at Anderson Ranch Arts Center. Since a portfolio review is required, the instructions on how to submit your portfolio are provided here.
In order to conduct the required portfolio review, we will need to see digital images of your work in one single PDF (as opposed to individual JPG attachments) sent directly to Anderson Ranch Studio Coordinator, Josh Meier, via email at firstname.lastname@example.org. Please include 10 images of 10 works. Additionally, please include an image identification list that includes: title, media, dimensions and year. While not required, it is helpful to see an artist statement addressing the images you send. Lastly, please provide a phone number where you can be reached and a link to your website. These materials must be submitted as a single PDF (less than 10 MB) to be considered.
Please include “Advanced Portfolio Review” in the subject line of your email, as well as the title of the workshop for which you are applying. Submissions that do not follow the requested directions will not be reviewed. To be considered, Josh Meier must receive portfolios by Friday, Feb. 10, 2017. We will email you regarding your status on or before Friday, Feb. 24, 2017. If you are accepted, a deposit of $500 will be required within one week of notification of acceptance to hold your place. Housing will be assigned on a space available basis upon enrollment.
Please note, if we receive your materials after Feb. 10, you will be considered on a space-available basis.
