Hone your skills in color mixing, composition, surface texture and value/contrast to create a truly alluring visual rendering in this exciting portraiture workshop. Working from a live model as well as sketches and photographs, students learn the ways in which gesture, expression and mood can help give life to the subjects in their images through drawing and painting in acrylic. Come away from this course with a better understanding of portraiture and all of its possibilities.

Media & Techniques:

Students begin by working in graphite and charcoal on paper to approach drawing from the gure, and then move on to painting in acrylics on paper, canvas or wood panel.

We engage in gestural exercises designed to capture a person’s personality, as well as technical rendering practices. The workshop offers daily individual feedback, group critiques, slide lectures and ample studio time working from the model as well as from sketches and photographs.
