Delve into the different applications of wax in the art studio in this fun and focused workshop! We begin the week using pencils, watercolors and oil pastels as we draft our initial sketches. We look at magazines, books and online sources as we research themes we wish to explore such as space, nature or travel. We then bring our sketches to life by trying the various applications of wax painting also known as encaustic. We learn a wide array of techniques each day and then spend the week creating our own pieces using colorful wax paint, unique stencils, carving tools and collage materials. We also take time to learn the batik method and create a unique batik piece or wall hanging tapestry – using natural dyes, silk and hot wax.
Please take note that this workshop is for the focused young artist as we work with heat sources, advanced tools and hot wax.
