Visiting Artist Anne Wu
Apr 27 - May 8, 2026
Anne Wu makes sculptures and installations that draw from the material culture and architectural vernacular of Chinese immigrant neighborhoods. Referencing familiar structures, such as doors, windows, stairs, and railings, her work riffs on existing built environments through fragmentation, abstraction, and rearticulation.
Wu received an MFA in Sculpture from Yale University in 2020 and a BFA from Cornell University in 2013. Solo exhibitions include There Is No Far and No Near at Smack Mellon (Brooklyn, NY) and A Dream Walking at Real Art Ways (Hartford, CT). Her work has been shown in group exhibitions at CLEARING (New York, NY), YveYANG Gallery (New York, NY), island gallery (New York, NY), Asia Art Archive in America (Brooklyn, NY), M23 (New York, NY), The Shed (New York, NY), The Mattatuck Museum (Waterbury, CT), and Shaker Museum | Mount Lebanon (New Lebanon, NY), among others. She was an artist-in-residence at the NARS Satellite Residency on Governors Island (2020), Smack Mellon Artist Studio Program (2021–2022), and Robert Blackburn Printmaking Workshop Kahn | Mason SIP Fellowship (2025). In 2022, she was awarded a Rema Hort Mann Foundation Emerging Artist Grant. Her work has been published in Sculpture, BOMB, The New York Times, Art in America, Hyperallergic, and Curbed. She currently lives and works in Queens, New York.
The Visiting Artists program is a core part of the Anderson Ranch Arts Center experience, welcoming contemporary artists across disciplines to work on campus through residencies and special projects. Artists receive dedicated time, space, and technical support to develop new work and advance their practice. Visiting artists engage with students and residents through studio visits, critiques, and public lectures, creating a meaningful exchange that enriches the Ranch community and the broader public.
