Community Engagement and Dialogue
Join us for a conversation in Schermer Meeting Hall at Anderson Ranch Arts Center with Visiting Artist James Casebere.
Visiting Artist lectures are free, open to the public, and available in person or via livestream.
James Casebere is a visual artist whose early work established him at the forefront of artists working with constructed photography. He received his BFA from the Mpls College of Art and Design, and his MFA from Cal Arts.
For almost 50 years Casebere has devised both simple and complex table top models, (often architectural), and photographed them in his studio. From 1986, through 1992 Casebere also made large-scale sculpture. Since receiving the Rome Prize in 2019, he has also made large-scale outdoor sculpture from CLT and indoor sculpture in burnt bamboo.
Casebere is the recipient of three fellowships each from the NEA and NYFA as well as one from the Guggenheim Foundation.
His work has been collected by the Whitney, the Guggenheim, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Walker Art Center, LAMOCA, the LA County Museum, the Victoria and Albert and Tate Museums in London, among many others.
The Visiting Artists program is a core part of the Anderson Ranch Arts Center experience, welcoming contemporary artists across disciplines to work on campus through residencies and special projects. Artists receive dedicated time, space, and technical support to develop new work and advance their practice. Visiting artists engage with students and residents through studio visits, critiques, and public lectures, creating a meaningful exchange that enriches the Ranch community and the broader public.
