Esteban Del Valle

Esteban del Valle is a Brooklyn, NY based interdisciplinary artist originally from Chicago. He received his MFA from RISD and has exhibited his work and produced murals internationally. His work has been featured in various publications, including Hi-Fructose and The Washington Post. Del Valle has been the recipient of several visual arts residencies and fellowships including Skowhegan, the Fine Arts Work Center, Smack Mellon Artist Studio Program, Toby Devan Lewis Fellowship, and The Daniel F. Breeden Eminent Scholar Chair at Auburn University. He has work in permanent collections including the Urban Nation in Berlin, Germany, The Zimmerli Art Museum in New Brunswick, NJ, and the Provincetown Art Association and Museum in Provincetown, MA.

Grasp the fundamentals of one of the most useful studio tools: drawing. Whether a novice painter or a beginning sculptor, students in this workshop focuses on several elemental drawing techniques to help strengthen your creative base. We explore drawing from observation and photographic sources, with an emphasis on mixed-media and drawing strategies designed to decrease the intimidation factor. We delve into techniques ranging from charcoal drawing to collage to pen on paper. Concentrating on a strong sketchbook practice and learning how to look, students focus on ways to approach complicated drawings regardless of skill level and get beyond the fear of the blank page.
