VIRTUAL WORKSHOP
New Approaches to Image-Making Through Painting, Printmaking, and Collage
Oct 6 - 9, 2025
Monday AND Thursday, 12:00-2:00PM MST
Concept
Experience the magic of Anderson Ranch from the comfort of your own home or studio with this new virtual printmaking and painting workshop. This isn’t your average Zoom experience—this workshop includes two immersive, hands-on learning tutorials designed to feel like you’re right here in the Ranch studio. With small class sizes (limited to 14 participants), you’ll enjoy personalized instruction, meaningful feedback, and the chance to connect with a creative community.
About the Workshop
Rediscover your approach to image-making through this virtual, mixed-media painting class. Taking inspiration from artists throughout history and their diverse approaches to combining media, we then set up our own compositions, filling our paintings with meaning, wonder, pattern, form and color. The class focuses on experimenting with abstract mark-making as well as representational imagery. We explore various ways to utilize acrylic and delve into collage and printmaking techniques, such as pochoir, stencils, and trace monotype, to create new and surprising marks.
PLEASE NOTE: This virtual workshop will be held live via Zoom on Monday and Thursday, October 6th and 9th, from 12-2PM MST.
This workshop meets via Zoom Video Conferencing software (download free from Zoom.com). An Anderson Ranch staff member co-teaches the class and coordinates the online platform. Further details will be emailed to registrants. Recordings will be available for 60 days following the workshop.

Photographic Collage: An Exploration of Photography and Painting
Kate Leonard
Tuition $1,200
Code P0103-26
Join an engaging exploration of the synthesis between two distinct art forms: photography and painting. Students discover transfer techniques that integrate photographic images and text directly onto painted surfaces, resulting in intriguingly layered works. Participants explore traditional collage and photomontage, and master new methods that allow for opaque and translucent layers. Reductive methods, such as sanding and scraping, reveal the history of earlier photographic layers and suggest an archaeological approach to image development. The workshop emphasizes experimentation and exploratory approaches. Students produce a portfolio of physical examples of all techniques.

Rob Hill
Tuition $1,295

Students learn to make imagery pop in this dynamic painting workshop open to all skill levels. Participants are challenged to dive into acrylic on panel while embarking on an abstract approach to image making. We explore color theory, patterning methods, and how to use masking tape to create clean, sharp lines and angles. We investigate abstraction and find personal ways to create shape, consider composition, and develop a sense of space. Emphasis is placed on hard/soft edge painting techniques and layering processes. Students are encouraged to let their creativity flow, while expanding their artistic techniques in this versatile and accessible painting medium.
