Create your very own comic strip and art zine! We begin by taking a look at different examples of comics and alternative publications to better understand the techniques of graphic art. Then we learn how to draw, carve, and print our comics using soft-kut linoleum blocks. We combine the arts of printmaking, collage, and bookbinding to make our very own art zines complete with original expressive storylines and artwork. Before the week is over we will also print our comic strips for all to see on t-shirts and tote bags to take home!
AMI MAES has taught classes at Anderson Ranch, the Aspen Art Museum, the Aspen Center for Environmental Studies and the Wyly Community Art Center. She is the recipient of the Mary Ellen Nix Art Educator of the Year Award through the Aspen Art Museum. Ami is the Founder + Creative Director of HANDMAKERY: A Children’s Art Studio in Carbondale, CO and also instructs art at the middle school level.
