Guest Faculty Lecture: Julie Winokur and Ivana Dama

Sunday and Tuesday evenings, June through September, Anderson Ranch features a slideshow presentation by distinguished faculty members and visiting artists. These insightful talks dive into the artists’ inspiration, their creative process, and more.

This presentation is free and open to the public and is available in person or via livestream.

Registration is appreciated. All on-campus workshop students will be pre-registered for this event.

 

Speaker

Julie Winokur

Julie Winokur, executive director of Talking Eyes Media, has been a storyteller for over two decades, first as a magazine writer and then as a documentary filmmaker. Her work has appeared on The New York Times, The Washington Post, PBS, Time, and National Geographic. Beyond broadcast and publication, Winokur works extensively with nonprofit organizations to develop their messages and put Talking Eyes’ films to work at the grassroots level. She is the co-founder of Newest Americans, a storytelling project about immigration and identity that was named Best Online Storytelling Project in 2020 by Pictures of the Year International. She is also the producer/director of The Sacrifice Zone and Bring It to The Table, both documentary films with extensive impact campaigns. Winokur is a National Geographic Explorer and has been on the faculty of Rutgers University-Newark and the International Center of Photography in New York.

Ivana Dama

Ivana Dama is an artist and researcher holding an MFA in Sculpture from Yale University. She previously graduated from UCLA’s School of Arts and Architecture with a degree in Media Arts and Digital Humanities. Her multidisciplinary work spans audio-video installations, robotics, web projects, and music performances, with a focus on the nonverbal expression of traumatic experiences through sound studies and sonic memories. Ivana’s practice explores the relationship between sound and vibrations at various scales, from the microscopic to the architectural and satellite. Her work has been featured in over 30 group shows, and she has had solo exhibitions in Portland and Los Angeles. In addition to her artistic practice, she recently joined Columbia University’s MFA program in Visual Art as a professor, where she teaches a class titled Critical Issues in Sound.
