Hayami Arakawa
Hayami Arakawa attended the school at California College of the Arts and Crafts, where he was able to focus his creative energies. Starting in the Industrial Design department and defecting to the Wood Furniture design program, Hayami laid the foundations for a lifelong career in design and making. He has been a woodshop manager, machinist technical instructor, and furniture professor. Now Hayami is the director of the MIT Hobby Shop in Cambridge, MA. Additionally, he is a practitioner of the furniture arts, an instructional video producer, and continues to design and build his line of Artifactoids.

Students have experience working with stationary machines and power tools and are familiar with basic principles of joinery and 3-D design.

Students have some formal training in 3-D design, experience with a variety of materials and fabrication processes, and know how to use machine and hand tools competently and safely. Students have a portfolio of their artwork.
