Animal Kingdom

Concept
Do you love animals? Us too! This workshop combines our love of animals and art as we craft extraordinary mixed-media wildlife friends. We learn how to draw, paint, and build our favorite animals in both realistic and creative forms using a wide array of artistic mediums. We make expressive papier-mâché creatures, slithering ceramic snakes, gigantic ocean collages, and more! We take time to learn about the animals we choose to create and how to emphasize the qualities that make them unique in the animal kingdom. Let’s get ready for this amazing animal adventure!

Olivia Martinez
Youth and Community Engagement Manager
Olivia was raised in San Francisco, California, and graduated from Colorado College in 2020 with a B.A. in Education and minors in Southwest Studies and Spanish. She has worked at the Denver Art Museum and Colorado Springs Fine Arts Center at Colorado College and is also a certified Colorado Environmental Educator. Olivia completed her Master’s in Teaching at Colorado College with a focus on Elementary Education in 2021. When not working with young people she is always looking for good food, creating, and cruising around on her bike. Preferred Pronouns: She/Her

Everyone on the waitlist will be emailed to alert them of the opening. This ensures that everyone has an equal opportunity to register for the workshop or program.
Workshop Details
Lodging & Meals
Housing is limited and includes shared and private lodging options. Reservations will be managed on a first-come, first-served basis. The earlier you reserve housing, the better your chance of receiving your preferred option. Please note: Workshop costs do not include accommodations.
We have established a Business Safety Plan with added layers of precaution that prioritize the health and safety of our staff, students, faculty and guests while continuing to provide you with the Anderson Ranch experience that you know and enjoy.
The Ranch Café meal plan that is included with Room and Board fees strives to provide healthy, creative meals that will nourish your artistic creativity. The meal plan includes 5 days of continental breakfasts that will include a hot offering, 5 lunches with a selection of offerings, and 5 dinners.
Scholarships, College Credit & Discounts
Making Art Accessible
Applications for scholarship support are encouraged. Specific scholarships are funded by Ranch supporters, either through endowed funds or special gifts.
Many colleges and universities offer college credit for workshops taken at Anderson Ranch. Discounts are available for students and teachers.

Art Break: Spooky Stories

Celebrate the longer nights of fall by diving into all things spooky! Join us as we explore eerie legends and ghostly tales from around the world. We'll craft haunted house dioramas and design our own mythical monsters, with each activity capturing the spine-chilling fun of the season. Get ready to let your imagination run wild and create art that embodies the spirit of spookiness. Art Breaks are an exciting program at Anderson Ranch Arts Center for kids ages 7-10. They are scheduled to complement breaks in the elementary school calendar throughout the year. Drop off and pick up will take place at the Evelyn and Martin Siegel Children’s Building, just inside the main Anderson Ranch entrance. Children should come prepared with a snack, lunch, water bottle, and appropriate apparel for a full day of art-making.

This Spring, Anderson Ranch brings its creative spirit back to Aspen Elementary School! Students eager to dive into the world of art join us after school on early-release Wednesdays in the art room for eight weeks of artistic exploration and growth. They explore color, shape, texture, and composition, expressing themselves through art. This program offers the support and inspiration young artists need to thrive. Scholarship support is available. This spring break, we honor some of the most famous spring holidays through artistic expression. We'll explore Ancient Greek Anthesteria, Southern Ute Bear Dance, Persian Nowruz, Lunar New Year, and Easter to create art that embodies the theme of renewal.
