Coding for Artists with p5.js
Jan 11 - 13, 2021
9-11AM & 1-4PM MST
Concept
This three-day online workshop introduces the basics of coding through creating visual media. Morning tutorial sessions will introduce new ideas through examples. Afternoon sessions are dedicated to individual studio time and one-on-one discussions with Ari. This workshop is created for total beginners with code and will introduce the fundamentals in detail. We’ll create a new project each day as we cover the coding basics of statements, variables, and conditionals. All examples and projects will be created with p5.js, a free, open-source coding environment created for visual artists. Learn more about p5.js at p5js.org.

Photographic Collage: An Exploration of Photography & Painting
Kate Leonard
Tuition $1,275
Code P0102-24
This class offers an engaging exploration of the synthesis between two distinct art forms: photography and painting. Students discover transfer techniques that integrate photographic images and text directly onto painted surfaces, resulting in intriguingly layered works. Participants explore traditional collage and photomontage, and master new methods that allow for opaque and translucent layers. Reductive methods, such as sanding and scraping, reveal the history of earlier photographic layers and suggest an archaeological approach to image development. The workshop emphasizes experimentation and exploratory approaches. Students produce a portfolio of physical examples of all techniques.
