Light, Shade, and Glazing in Oil
Jun 30 - Jul 4, 2025
9AM-5PM
Concept
Explore oil paint’s unique ability to harness light and create dramatic, believable forms through the techniques of the old masters. Through experimentation with various styles and schools of painting, students discover how to mix oil color with light, creating deep sumptuous darkness and bright, robust color and form. Using the latest in technology and chemistry in oil paint and medium, students practice a division of labor, learning to develop light, form, and color through layering techniques, including toned oil grounds, underpainting, grisaille, dead coloring, and glazing.
