Sled Derby Workshop
Feb 13, 2022
Anderson Ranch Arts Center welcomes families to attend a free sled building workshop. In this half-day session, students ages 9-12 learn and use woodworking skills to create their very own toboggan to be raced at the Ranch’s first ever Sled Derby to be held on February 21st from 10AM to 12PM! With hands-on help from our Studio Coordinators, participating teams gather in the Maloof Wood Barn at the Ranch where they assemble toboggan kits designed and handcrafted by Ranch Artistic Staff.
The workshops will take place on Sunday, February 13th, and all participants are strongly encouraged to also attend the Sled Derby on February 21st from 10AM-12PM.
Workshops will be offered at the following times:
- Session 1: Sunday, February 13 – 9:30AM – 12PM
- Session 2: Sunday, February 13 – 1:30PM – 4PM
Each registration is limited to teams of two people: one adult and one child, age 9-12, per session. Teams will leave the workshop with assembled sleds and a kit of supplies for at-home decoration. We encourage decoration creativity in preparation for the Anderson Ranch Sled Derby!
On Derby day, team check-in takes place at 10AM. Costumes are encouraged! Please come prepared with winter and safety apparel including helmets, goggles and mittens. Drinks and snacks will be provided and a craft project will also take place on the Ranch campus in addition to the race. Prizes for toboggan teams will be awarded at the end of the event.
