Hybrid Techniques in Etching

Tuition $1,050
Code R0908-22
In this exploratory workshop designed to produce dynamic and multilayered results, participants delve into various techniques in etching beyond the traditional or straightforward method of linework in hard ground. Lesser-known materials such as white ground, crackle ground, soft ground, sugar lift and even digitally-prepared vinyl stencils are explored to create rich and sometimes unpredictable textures and surfaces. Students are encouraged to use these unique processes in tandem with more traditional drawing techniques, eliciting experimentation and the investigation of interesting approaches to mark making.
