A chair with a sidecar rolls you into cocktail hour. A lamp with a belly gets scratched in order to turn on. Who said furniture has to be streamlined and straight-laced in order to be functional? In this class, students express themselves and their hidden personalities as they make a small piece of furniture with attitude, spending the week in the woodshop designing and building objects that break the boundaries of furniture as we know it. Demonstrations cover basic woodworking techniques that are tailored to the needs of individual projects. Form, surface, and color are considered key to unlocking and communicating narratives about these personality pieces.
