Anderson Ranch’s Studio Session approach provides artists the opportunity to work on independent projects while receiving regular one-on-one mentoring and critique sessions with Anderson Ranch artistic staff and interns. Each participant receives an assigned studio space, orientation and access to equipment, as well as five hours of weekly technical guidance in the Ranch’s state-of-the-art facilities. This program affords artists the experience enjoyed by national and international artists who access our state-of-the-art studios. Participants may expand their practices, take artistic risks, try new media or complete works for exhibition. *Bench and gluing rooms open 24 hours a day. LIMITED machine tool room access from 9am – 5pm, Monday - Friday Studio Sessions are available to artists with prior experience in woodworking, tools, and safety. All participants will be required to attend safety orientations for the facilities and specific tools they will use. TO APPLY: Portfolios will be accepted on a rolling basis. Please include a short proposal of your goals, intentions, and how you will use your time in the studio session. Include processes, equipment, and finishes. This workshop combines ceramics, stained glass, concave and convex lenses to explores themes of light, vision, and sensory distortion. Participants learn how to create sculptural experiences by creating perforations on ceramic surfaces, inserting colored glass within them, and utilizing various lenses that transmit, reflect, and refract light. Through the tension and harmony between materials, participants explore new possibilities in the language of form and explore opportunities to express their inner narratives through the stunning use of light and color in three dimensions. Immerse yourself in the fascinating world of aerophone sounds and ceramic sculpture. This workshop is designed for both beginner and advanced artists to learn techniques for creating works that engage both the ear and the eye. Discover how to generate a variety of sounds through the design and construction of unique ceramic sculptural forms inspired by ancient pre-Hispanic cultures. During the session, we focus on the sculptural modeling of forms and figures. We begin with a globular vessel as the initial module, using the pinch-and-pressure modeling technique. We then delve into the world of aerophones by designing a sound system within our sculptures. Participants learn how the shape and size of the resonating chamber will influence the resulting sound, giving the artwork symbolic and aesthetic meaning. Join us for this unique experience where ceramics and sound merge to create a piece that resonates with your senses and emotions.
