Concept
Get ready to blast off into a week of cosmic creativity as we dive into the mysteries of space and the excitement of alien life! In this out-of-this-world workshop, young artists embark on an intergalactic adventure filled with art and imagination. We craft colorful planet mobiles using foam balls, tempera paint, and fishing line, build rocket ships from recycled materials, and dream up aliens made from clay and glow-in-the-dark paint. With creativity soaring to new heights, this fun and dynamic workshop takes students on a thrilling journey beyond the stars! Buckle up for an unforgettable cosmic art experience!

Hallie McQueeny
Growing up, Hallie McQueeny always wanted to be an artist. She is currently a Visual Arts teacher at Aspen Elementary School and believes in the incorporation of creativity, teamwork, and curiosity into her students’ daily lives. Her goal in education is to engage students in the classroom and empower them to carry on their creativity outside the classroom. Hallie is excited to help students explore and develop their own style of art.

Workshop Details
Lodging & Meals
Housing is limited and includes shared and private lodging options. Reservations will be managed on a first-come, first-served basis. The earlier you reserve housing, the better your chance of receiving your preferred option. Please note: Workshop costs do not include accommodations.
NEW: Tuition includes a welcome dinner and lunches. In our effort to foster a stronger sense of community and accessibility at Anderson Ranch, we include the welcome dinner and all lunches as part of the tuition for summer workshop students. Our hope is that this adjustment will encourage all students to come together to share meals and engage in meaningful conversations. The Ranch Café Meal Plan, which is included with Room and Board fees, strives to provide healthy, creative meals that will nourish your artistic creativity. Learn more.
We have established a Business Safety Plan with added layers of precaution that prioritize the health and safety of our staff, students, faculty and guests while continuing to provide you with the Anderson Ranch experience that you know and enjoy.

Making Art Accessible
Applications for scholarship support are encouraged. Specific scholarships are funded by Ranch supporters, either through endowed funds or special gifts.
Many colleges and universities offer college credit for workshops taken at Anderson Ranch. Discounts are available for students and teachers.

Discover the power of the five elements through hands-on art! Young artists will explore wind, water, fire, earth, and space by using swirling watercolors to capture the breeze, sculpting explosive volcanoes with papier-mâché, creating rain-inspired drip pastels, and crafting glowing lanterns that symbolize fire. Along the way, they’ll learn how artists from different cultures have been inspired by nature’s forces—from Japanese woodblock prints of ocean waves to Indigenous sand painting traditions. Through texture, color, and movement, students will bring the raw energy of the natural world to life in their own unique creations!

Into the Blue

Take a deep dive of discovery into the underwater world of the ocean! In this workshop, we explore sea creatures big and small, such as seahorses, jellyfish, sharks, and whales. Do fish really sleep with their eyes open? How many species of whales can we find? Which type of crab carries his house on his back? We answer these questions while reading ocean-themed stories that enliven our imaginations and inspire amazing underwater artworks to take home. Artistic projects include detailed ceramic seahorses, oversized jellyfish, papier mâché starfish, deep sea watercolor collages, and more!

Kinetic energy shapes the world of art! Let’s explore the forces of flight, engineer bridges, and delve into the cultural significance of the passageways we create for the mechanics of movement. We use tissue paper, dowels, and toothpicks to build structures of flight, recycled materials to develop bridges, print-making to represent significant trails, and more. By blending technology, design, and artistic expression we capture movement in creative ways from print-making to sculpture. Get ready to pioneer new paths and bring the energy of motion to life.
