Creativity Cook Off!

Concept
Up-and-coming foodies need look no further than this enticing, dynamic workshop that explores the intersection of cuisine, creativity, culture, and clay. Students dream up their ideal menu as we create food out of clay and mixed-media materials. Menu items may include tacos, popsicles, donuts, grilled cheese, or a slice of cherry pie. We also create our very own personalized food truck out of mixed-media materials! Students design their own food truck logos, hand-printed aprons, and masterful menus. Let’s create some culinary art!
Faculty
Hilary Forsyth
Hilary Forsyth is an artist and illustrator who has illustrated the Rocky Mountain Mammal, Plant, Birds and Bugs volumes for the Family Field Guide series created by BearBop Press Children’s Books. She has been teaching clever and inspiring workshops at Anderson Ranch Arts Center for many summers, and has also been the art director for the Aspen Community School for 23 years.

Making Art Accessible
Applications for scholarship support are encouraged. Specific scholarships are funded by Ranch supporters, either through endowed funds or special gifts.
Many colleges and universities offer college credit for workshops taken at Anderson Ranch. Discounts are available for students and teachers.

Location: Aspen Elementary School art room This Spring, Anderson Ranch brings its creative spirit back for Wednesday programming! Students eager to dive into the world of art join us on early-release Wednesdays at the Aspen Elementary School art room for weeks of artistic exploration and growth. They explore color, shape, texture, and composition, expressing themselves through art. This program offers the support and inspiration young artists need to thrive. Exception Dates: March 4th and April 1st, 2026.

Join for a single day or the whole week! Whiz, Whoosh, Zoom! Art in Action. Get ready to move, make, and imagine! In this high-energy workshop, we explore the exciting world of motion through art. From flowing rivers and twisting roads to flying machines and spinning surprises, each day brings a new adventure. We’ll sculpt clay boats, build tunnels, fly hand-crafted kites, and create mesmerizing zoetropes. Using Ozobots, topographic maps, recycled treasures, and vibrant paints, we’ll invent whimsical machines and kinetic creations. Through sculpture, collage, and playful invention, we’ll turn movement into magic. At the end of the week, we’ll celebrate with a special gallery show featuring all our action-packed artworks! Art Through Time!

Pack your bags—we’re going on an art adventure through history! Each day, young artists travel to a different time and place to discover how people have made art for thousands of years. We start by painting cave-style murals like early humans, then try our hands at clay tablets inspired by ancient Mesopotamia. We design pottery like the Greeks and Romans, decorate fancy letters like medieval artists, and make bright “stained-glass” collages that glow with color. Moving forward in time, we splash paint like the Impressionists, create bold pop art, and dream up what art might look like in the future! By the end of the week, every child has created a “time capsule” of their own amazing creations—celebrating creativity from the past, present, and beyond!
