Concept
Take a journey through the world of art, and then make some of your own in this lively weeklong workshop. We are inspired by some of the great and influential artists of our time. Each day we focus on a different artist with a comprehensive look at their style and then spend the day creating our own unique artworks. We learn about famous artists such as Matisse, Picasso, Kusama, Klee, Kahlo, Dali, and many more! Students create a beautiful mixed-media mosaic using Klee’s colors and shapes, a large collaborative collage inspired by Matisse using his geometric abstract style, and a self-portrait expressing emotion like Picasso and Frida. We also get jazzy with Pollock as we paint to the sound of music. Join us on this amazing artistic adventure!
Faculty

Lilian Lara
Lilian Lara is a mixed-media artist focusing on papier-mâché sculptures and costume design. Her love of outrageous pageantry and interest in the fantastical is evident in her work as she draws on her Mexican roots to create unique pieces. She believes art is an essential component to the human condition and should occupy a major space in our daily lives. To create is to communicate without words and boundaries—to be understood without explanation.

Embark on an exciting journey through the stars! For centuries, people from all over the world have looked up at the night sky and imagined amazing stories from constellations. Young artists explore these dazzling star myths from different cultures, then dream up their own stories to bring to life through colorful comic book art. We create clay characters as the heroes of their myths to accompany their comics. With a burst of imagination and curiosity, we blend art and storytelling in a way that's truly out of this world!
