Incorporating Personal Imagery into Painting
Jul 1 - 5, 2024
9AM - 5PM
Concept
Participants approach the process of integrating memorabilia and personal imagery into paintings as they deepen their practice. Students use found and personal photographs, manipulating them through analog media such as paint and collage. Pushing and pulling against the line between abstraction and representation, students find new access to generating images and content using a synthesis of many source materials. They create a small body of personal work throughout the week using acrylic, other water-based media, and collage on canvas and heavy weight paper. Topics for discussion are conveying personal perspective, achieving multilayered surfaces, and creating visual space through shape, pattern, texture, and color relationships.
Media & Techniques
Acrylic, graphite, colored pencil, water-based media, collage on canvas and paper

Tuition $675
Code D0612-25
In this introductory-level painting workshop for teens, students learn to approach painting through a variety of lenses from observational to stylized, and embark upon many exercises relating to color, line, and form. Students begin by focusing on painting from observation and learning to record what they see, then explore abstraction, pattern, and developing color fields. We take inspiration from paintings throughout history and gain a knowledge of historical works, as well as taking a look at contemporary imagery. Teens come away with a portfolio of paintings to continue to build upon in the future.
