CONCEPT: Immerse yourself in the world of painting, and gain confidence at handling a variety of paint media as we explore the technical, perceptual and conceptual basics of painting. This course focuses not only on the nuts and bolts of ground preparation, media characteristics, and methods of paint application but provides a foundation in how to interpret what you see and how to transfer that information to canvas so that it is both seemingly “real” and aesthetically sound. Topics include basic theory and use of color and composition in working with a variety of paint media on a variety of surfaces.

MEDIA & TECHNIQUES: Students use oil, acrylic, watercolor paint application and surface preparation.

ACTIVITIES: We learn through demonstrations, daily exercises, slide lectures and individual studio time.

FACULTY: Josh Meier is the Studio Coordinator of Painting and Printmaking at Anderson Ranch. He received his B.F.A. from the University of Kansas. www.joshmeier.com
