Mia Semingson

DATES: June 8 – 12, 2015

SKILL LEVEL:  II – IV (Basic Adobe Lightroom and Adobe Photoshop knowledge required.)

CONCEPT: Embark on a creative journey where old techniques are merged with new. In this workshop, encaustic painting techniques and digital photography are combined using collage, painting and transfer processes. Together we use the encaustic medium to transform digital prints by adding additional layers of meaning. Through project assignments, engaging discussions and demonstrations, students gain a thorough knowledge of encaustic painting techniques.

MEDIA & TECHNIQUES: Students use encaustic painting and collage on wood panels and heavy papers; digital printing on fine-art digital papers; Adobe Lightroom, Adobe Photoshop and laser transfers.

ACTIVITIES: We demonstrate painting, collage and digital printing techniques and develop photo-encaustic collage projects. Students create digital prints of their own photographic imagery supplemented by found imagery, objects and collage materials.

FACULTY: Mia Semingson works in photography, video, performance and artists’ books. She received her M.F.A. from the University of Colorado at Boulder and subsequently taught photography and book arts there for 11 years.
