Exploring Personal Narratives and Storytelling Through Representational Painting
Using a personal object, writing or photograph as a point of departure, students explore different methods of storytelling through representational painting. They then identify the approach that fits best with their own personal narrative. The “text” and potential “subtext” of a painted object, landscape, person, animal or interior are considered. There are several short readings assigned that range from fiction to science writing, a slideshow and a short screening. The majority of the class is spent as studio time along with several group discussions, critiques and individual meetings with the instructor.
