Carving Away: Woodcut Reductions
Karen Kunc
Tuition $1,150
Code R1413-23
The course challenges students with mental gymnastics and unexpected results that are part of the reduction woodcut process. The efficiency and logic of using one woodblock for successive layers of color and detail allow for an exciting journey of both spontaneity and planning. This workshop keeps the process alive with possibilities and innovations that subvert and reinvent the color reduction woodblock. Our approach is not technically tradition-bound but offers contemporary, creative methods that inspire boldness, simplicity, and strong artistic intention.
