Sculptural Paper Casting: analog & digital tools
Create lightweight sculptural forms using modified ancient techniques of hollow paper-casting—not your average papier-mâché! Participants experiment with supplied paper as well as their own found media, to build form and meaning through layering. Students create a series of strong yet delicate sculptures using their environment as inspiration and source of forms, upon which paper may be cast and then removed. Limits are tested in terms of structural scale and surfaces are enriched through the integration of pigments and natural materials. Digital Fabrication resources allow for experimentation with laser cutters to perforate or engrave paper materials.
