Soft Sculpture: Accumulated Actions
Mark Newport
Tuition $1,150
Code S1111-23
Soft materials speak to our most basic needs of protection and comfort, and offer expressive possibilities based in our most intimate bodily experiences with items like garments and blankets. Soft materials are also challenging to build with and achieving form often requires support structures and stiffeners to maintain shape and volume. We explore the ways accumulated gestures and the inherent qualities of materials can help us build structure and form with soft materials. Knitting, felting, beadwork, and sewing processes are investigated as methods to build upon. Some experience with knitting is ideal.
