Ceramic Tool Making using Digital Fabrication Processes

Mary Margaret Sims

Tuition $1,200
Code C0921-24

Let’s get curious about the clay tools and how they affect the process and finished product! In this workshop, students utilize the Digital Fabrication Studio to design and fabricate tools for clay. We focus on designing and milling one part plaster molds on the CNC Router. In addition, we utilize the vacuum former and 3D printing to create positive and negative plaster stamps and small molds. Rhinoceros, Aspire and Prusa slice are primary to this workshop. Students are encouraged to bring personal laptops and sketches. Clay will not be fired during this workshop but students will take handmade tools home and implement them into their ceramics practice. Rhino experience is not required but students are strongly encouraged to have experience with clay.
