In this experimental, mixed-media sculpture workshop, students use an assortment of materials (natural and/or manmade; found or purchased; ephemeral or enduring) to hone sculpting and fabricating techniques including mold-making, casting, assemblage and earth modification. The workshop begins by establishing a question-based methodology for making art. This critical process of interrogating oneself about body, ideas, beliefs, memories or personal history and the world serves as a prompt for making work that thoughtfully synthesizes one’s unique process, form and content. The ultimate aim is to uncover ways to bridge the personal and the cultural within art-making.
