Sangram Majumdar
Born in Kolkata, India, Sangram Majumdar lives and works in Seattle, WA. Recently he has exhibited at venues including Shoshana Wayne Gallery, Los Angeles, Geary Contemporary, New York City, Steven Harvey Fine Art Projects, New York City and Asia Society Texas Center. His work has been reviewed in Artforum, The Brooklyn Rail and Hyperallergic, among others.

This rigorous painting class focuses on how iterative thinking and making can be used to do two things simultaneously–to expand and hone in on one’s existing ideas. The focus is particularly on the role of color, the variables of size and scale and conditions of space in order to create a series or small body of work. Students work from life, imagination and reference imagery. Working methods shift between dry media, such as pastels and charcoal, and wet media, such as oil or acrylic paint. Surfaces include paper and multiple pre-stretched canvases or prepared panels.
