Artist’s Books: bound monotypes
Aug 2 - 6, 2021
9AM-5PM
Concept
Explore the inclusion of painterly as well as graphic monotypes in the time-based medium of the handmade book to create a complex and personal work of art. Students learn a variety of water- and oil-based monotype techniques to generate images and content to be bound in different book structures. Students investigate the sequential possibilities that the book form offers. The workshop investigates the relationships between form, material and content in printmaking media and how these relationships can be used to create and inform meaning in book objects.
Media
Book structures such as a variety of accordion books, flag books, meander folds and drum-leaf binding structures with soft and hard covers, water-based monotypes using silkscreen techniques, oil-based monotypes using the lithographic and etching press, dry chine collé techniques
